Career Tips from a PM (13/30) – Put yourself in your customer’s shoes.
Without a solid understanding of a day in the life of your customers, whether or not your product will succeed is left to chance.
Similarly, if you don’t understand the world the companies you apply to live in, you’ll have a hard time standing out to them.
A great way to better understand the companies you apply for (which, in turn, gives you a much better sense of what experience and skills of yours would resonate with them), is to think like a product manager and create USER PERSONAE for each of the types of companies you’re interested in.
What are they interested in?
What are their goals?
What are their pain points?
What motivates them?
What challenges do they have?
What do they need? Expect?
What technologies do they use?
What kinds of content do they consume?
What brands influence them?
Asking questions like these ahead of time makes it far simpler for you to adjust your messaging in future conversations with them to better resonate with you and the value you bring.
Put yourself in your customer’s shoes.
