30 Career Tips from a PM – #3 Not everyone needs your solution

Career Tips from a PM (3/30) – Not everyone needs your solution.

A product’s success inherently depends on whether or not it solves a problem that the market they serve wants or needs solved. Your product could be the best product that ever existed in the history of all time, but the universal truth is that the problems it solves are not necessarily the problems everyone has.

This same principle applies to what you have to offer as a professional. It’s not that your experience, skills, or achievements don’t matter. Instead, it’s that the value that they offer to others is not necessarily what others need or want at that time.

What this means for your career is that you should not take rejections personally, whether it’s for a job opening, asking for a promotion, requesting help from a team, offering something to a potential customer, etc. That “no” does not diminish your worth as a professional. You are valuable none-the-less whether or not that “no” turns into a “yes” in the future.

And even if it doesn’t, that’s OKAY. Somewhere in that 8.2 billion people large crowd is someone who does.

Not everyone needs your solution.
